The Foundation
Mastering long-exposure settings and manual camera control in low-light conditions.

Johnnie did a great job guiding us through the park, finding good subject matter, and brought reflectors and lighting so we could try different shots of the same subject and learn about the effects. Great learning event, thank you!

For more than 10 years photography has been my passion; capturing beautiful landscapes, emotional fine art still life, and interesting architectural images to hang on my walls or share with the world. My journey from novice to now has seen many milestones and lessons learned. I truly believe we never stop learning and I try to pass that same attitude onto those around me. What started as a simple hobby has turned into an enduring passion that I love to share with the world.

Michael Poteete is available for private bookings

This is where more granular focus can be made on specific techniques such as lighting, bracketing and importantly post production in Photoshop, Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw. Learn a full workflow from scouting to shoot and finally post processing your images so they can hang on your walls.

I drive by this abandoned house often while on my work travels and was always trying to get the shot of this house. This view is me sitting at a stop light and trying to shoot before the light turned green. The only time I was grateful for heavy traffic! Shot with a Canon EOS 6D MKII - 35mm, F/11, 1/320sec, ISO 640.

I took this photo on March 29 around 5:30 a.m. while I was out shooting for a school assignment. I wasn?t even planning to photograph this scene yet. I was still getting set up and getting ready to enjoy some coffee over at my best friend?s house.Out of nowhere, a TVA barge came through, cutting across the river and completely changing the scene. I had to move fast, get my camera set, and take the shot before the moment passed. What I really liked about it was how the barge lit up the riv

This image is a Still Life Composition of "Berries, Wine and Grapes" that I created on a rainy day in my bedroom. I used no fancy Studio Lighting at all. My only light source was a hand-held flashlight that I kept moving rapidly. It was an experiment in Light Painting when I couldn't go outside to shoot.
